Muller, 35, said in a joint statement with Bayern on Saturday that his ‘amazing adventure’ with his boyhood club will conclude in July.
Thomas Muller will depart Bayern Munich this summer after 25 years with the German club.
Muller, 35, said in a joint statement with Bayern on Saturday that his “incredible journey” with his boyhood club will come to an end in July.
The midfielder’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and he has received limited playing time.
“It’s clear that today is not like any other day for me,” Muller told reporters. “My 25-year career as an FC Bayern Munich player will come to an end this summer. It’s been an unbelievable trip, marked by one-of-a-kind experiences, memorable meetings, and unforgettable successes.
“I am overjoyed and grateful that I have been given the opportunity to pursue this career with my favorite club. The special bond with the club and our amazing fans will always exist. What I want for a farewell should be simple: titles we can celebrate together and memories we’ll cherish for a long time.”
Muller has helped Bayern win 33 titles since joining the club’s academy at the age of ten in the summer of 2000. He has appeared in 743 matches, a club record.
Muller will play his farewell game for Bayern at the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States in June and July, according to the team.
“Thomas Muller is the definition of a Bavarian fairytale career; he grew up in Bavaria and with Bayern,” Bayern president Herbert Hainer remarked. “Nobody has won more Bundesliga titles, and the 33 trophies won so far say volumes. He is one of the most prominent figures in FC Bayern history.”
